PA Dems’ Burn Burns Dem Field

During a press call today, Jim Burn, Chairman of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, admitted that he doesn’t expect a “super candidate” to enter the Democratic gubernatorial primary.

“There’s no super candidate jumping out from behind the curtain,” he said. “Not that I’m aware of.”

Burn admitted what most people are already talking about: Democrats have only fielded a line-up of backbenchers.

For the record, Chairman Burn, we agree that your field is less than lackluster.

Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairman: Democratic gubernatorial field has no “super candidate”

Pennsylvania’s top Democrat has added more credence to speculation that state Treasurer Rob McCord will enter the crowded field to oust Republican Gov. Tom Corbett.

Speaking to state political reporters Wednesday in a conference call about the party’s campaign to replace Corbett next year, state Democratic Party Chairman Jim Burn said he expects to see McCord enter the race.

“We all know it’s an inevitability that the treasure is going to announce at some point,” Burn said Wednesday.

McCord has stoked the speculation himself, privately lining up support and telling reporters he’ll make an announcement in the fall.

But Burn poured water on the notion that another high-profile Pennsylvania Democrat — such as U.S. Sen. Bob Casey Jr., or state Attorney General Kathleen Kane — would jump into the race as well.

“There’s no super candidate jumping out from behind the curtain,” he said. “Not that I’m aware of.”
