In case you missed it, The Somerset Daily American profiled Republican Superior Court candidate Chester County Deputy DA Megan McCarthy King as she travelled through the area on Thursday.

King, 49, completed a clerkship for Justice Thomas G. Saylor. Saylor, who is from Meyersdale, was elected to the Pennsylvania Superior Court in 1993 and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in 1997. He assumed the chief justice role in 2015. “He is my mentor,” she said. “Someone I would really look up to for his writing ability and thoughtfulness when it comes to writing his opinions.”

“One of the reasons I went back to receive my master’s in education was I saw that even though children as victims are particularly vulnerable I saw a disproportionate number of children with exceptionalities that made them particularly vulnerable,” she said. “I went back to school to learn more to make sure I was doing the best job I could in child abuse cases.” She returned to the DA’s office where she continued her work on child abuse cases. She later led a countywide initiative to combat elder abuse.

“I also think it is important we have judges with current criminal law experience on the bench,” she said. “Because a majority of the cases that are appealed to the Superior Court are criminal.”
