ICYMI: Judge Christylee Peck on Superior Court Bid – “I care about fair justice in this state”

In case you missed it, the Somerset Daily American profiled Cumberland County Judge Christylee Peck as she traveled through the area this week and discussed her bid for Pennsylvania Superior Court.

Here are some key excerpts from the story:

“I care about fair justice in this state,” the 44-year-old Republican said. “I want the courts to be balanced in terms of their perspective, geographically, and I just want to make sure all the court of common pleas judges are applying the law as it is written in a fair manner.”

“I ran for county judge because I loved handling cases and trying to get justice for kids,” she said. “I just thought I could do more on a broader scale by being a judge.” As a common pleas court judge, Peck handles all aspects of law, including civil, criminal, custody and family law. “I like handling all of it,” she said. “It is intellectually stimulating because I handle all areas of law.”

One issue she hears while traveling across the state is a concern that some judges on the appellate courts are not applying the law as it is written, in particular when it comes to drawing political boundaries. “People are interested in how I will apply the constitution and not go outside the bounds of what a judge is supposed to be doing, which is following the law, not writing the law,” she said.
