Pennsylvania Republican Party Chairman comments on President Trump’s latest effort to work with Democrats to reopen the federal government

Saturday, President Donald Trump offered a commonsense compromise that would provide comprehensive immigration reform including protections for DACA recipients, an extension of protections for those in the country under Temporary Protected Status, $800 million in emergency humanitarian assistance, along with needed border security measures in the form of a physical barrier and more border patrol agents.

In response, Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Val DiGiorgio, made the following statement:

“President Trump has been working over the course of this Democrat-created partial federal government shutdown to bring all sides to the table to work toward immigration reform measures desired and previously supported by both sides of the aisle.

“Once again, President Trump has reached out in the spirit of compromise to Democrats—who do nothing but constantly obstruct his efforts and continue to embrace the open borders wing of their party—with reasonable measures to bring this shutdown to a conclusion and provide our country with much-needed border security.

“Democrats must stop their obstruction, work with the President and Congressional Republicans, and both reopen the government and provide for comprehensive immigration reform measures that include needed border security components.”
