Wolf OK With Women On Campaign Trail, But Not As Leaders Of His Company

HARRISBURG — Republican Party of Pennsylvania Communications Director Megan Sweeney released the following statement regarding Tom Wolf’s record on women’s issues.

“If Tom Wolf was serious about gathering women’s input on important issues, his company wouldn’t have had an all-male Board of Directors,” Sweeney said. “Tom Wolf claimed to have ‘women in spades’ in his corporation, but out of twenty-six management positions only two were held by women.

“Is Tom Wolf’s male-dominated approach to business the type of leadership Hillary Clinton is ready to endorse? Does Hillary Clinton condone the glass ceiling that existed at Tom Wolf’s corporation?

“Pennsylvania voters deserve to know why Tom Wolf chose to institute an all-male Board of Directors in his company. It’s time for Tom Wolf to stop trying to hide his past from the public and start acting like a leader.”

Tom Wolf’s Record on Women in the Workplace

In January, Tom Wolf claimed to have “women in spades” in his business, The Wolf Organization. (“Tom Wolf: “Can you tell us why there are no women on board of Wolf Organization?” Pa Dem Gov Debate,” HeyRubino on YouTube, 1/27/2014)

But the Wolf Organization has zero women on its Board of Directors, and only two women on its twenty-five member leadership team. (“Leadership,” The Wolf Organization, http://www.wolforg.net/leadership.htm, Accessed 10/8/2014)

Wolf’s Campaign Refused to Release An Internal Gender Audit Of His Company — “No Deal.” “When asked by The Patriot-News and PennLive to share one of those reviews, Wolf campaign spokesman Mark Nicastre replied: “The Wolf Organization cannot release employee pay information or internal reviews of this nature due to the personal and proprietary nature of the documents. Even a redacted copy? No deal.” (Donald Gilliland, “Tom Wolf said his company’s management ‘has women in spades’ — Barbara Hafer says prove it,” Harrisburg Patriot News, 5/6/2014)

His lack of women in the workplace has even drawn the ire of his fellow Democrats.

  • Barbara Hafer — “How Can We Trust Him?” “‘Either Tom Wolf thinks that two women are ‘women in spades,’ or he lied in his previous statement,’ said Hafer. ‘If he didn’t make promoting women a priority at his company, how can we trust him?’” (Don Gilliland, “Tom Wolf said his company’s management ‘has women in spades’ – Barbara Hafer says prove it,” Harrisburg Patriot-News, 5/6/2014)
  • Women for Wolf Campaign Chair Allyson Schwartz — “Tom Wolf may think it’s ridiculous to ask legitimate questions about whether his company pays women and men equally.” “Tom Wolf may think it’s ridiculous to ask legitimate questions about whether his company pays women and men equally…Tom Wolf’s labeling of questions about pay equity at The Wolf Organization as ‘ridiculous’ is insulting to the hundreds of thousands of women who have heard the exact same response when they ask questions about wage disparities in the workplace.” (“Schwartz to Wolf: Release Pay Equity Audit,” AllysonSchwartz.com, 5/7/2014)
