PA GOP Chairman Gleason Releases Statement On Voter ID Decision

HARRISBURG — Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement regarding today’s Voter ID announcement.

“The right of Americans to vote for those that govern us is one of the most important of freedoms we have,” Gleason said. “This right serves as the bedrock of our nation’s 200 plus years of success as a Republic whose leaders are, and who always have been, freely elected by the people. The Republican Party of Pennsylvania remains committed to protecting the integrity and right of every voter to a free and fair election in compliance with the Constitution and the law.

“Our Party is committed to encouraging and ensuring that all eligible persons have the right to vote in every election. Every voter deserves to be confident that the sanctity of his or her vote will not be diminished due to voter fraud. Our rights under the Equal Protection clause of the U.S. and State Constitutions protect and ensure the credibility of election results. Confidence in the outcome of our elections is a key element in uniting all us together as one people and one nation, despite any differences in political views.

“We remain hopeful that Republicans, Democrats and Independents can come together to find ways to defend the electoral process against voter fraud and fulfill the overwhelming support of fair elections.”
