Despite PA Dems’ Best Efforts, PA’s Energy Industry Creates Jobs

HARRISBURG — Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement regarding a recent study from the United States Council of Mayors that cited Pennsylvania’s growing natural gas industry as leading to the creation of thousands of jobs by 2020.

“When Pennsylvania Democrats voted to ban all natural gas drilling, they voted to ban good-paying jobs, like the ones being created under the Corbett-Cawley Administration,” Gleason said. “Under Governor Tom Corbett’s leadership, Pennsylvania has become a national leader in energy production. The US Council of Mayor’s study serves as further evidence that Pennsylvania energy equals Pennsylvania jobs. If the Pennsylvania Democrats had their way, these energy jobs would not exist.

“Governor Tom Corbett and Lt. Governor Jim Cawley’s commonsense economic policies are putting Pennsylvania back to work. Just last week, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate hit a six-year low at 6.2%. While the national unemployment rate rises, Pennsylvania’s growing energy sector is helping to create good-paying jobs in our communities.”

According to a study released by the United States Council of Mayors, Pennsylvania’s natural gas industry will lead to the development of thousands of jobs by 2020.

Last year, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party voted to pass a resolution calling for a ban natural gas drilling in Pennsylvania.
