Congressman Bill Shuster, a Republican whose district includes Franklin County, has been named a conferee to the Surface Transportation Act.

In his capacity as a conferee, Shuster will be a key negotiator for the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure during House and Senate negotiations. Shuster is a senior member of the transportation committee, serving on the subcommittee on highways and transit and as the chairman of the subcommittee on railroads, pipelines and hazardous materials.

“Transportation is a critical element of our nation’s economic competitiveness. I look forward to working with my House and Senate colleagues to produce a strong bill that creates jobs, moves the Keystone Pipeline project forward, streamlines bureaucracy,
implements key reforms, provides certainty and reliability to states to undertake much need infrastructure projects and improvements, and is responsibly paid for,” said Shuster.
