U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-8th) voted Feb. 1 to extend the existing pay freeze for Members of Congress and federal employees. Congressman Fitzpatrick was one of four cosponsors of H.R. 3835.
“I am glad that my colleagues in the House have joined me in my efforts to rein in out-of-control federal spending and restore fiscal sanity to our nation’s capital,” said Fitzpatrick in a release. “As Congress continues to find savings in the massive federal bureaucracy, it should start with its own payrolls. At a time when we are asking all federal agencies to live within their means, it is important that Congress follows suit.”
According to the release, H.R. 3835 amends the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2011 (P.L. 111-242) to extend through December 31, 2013, the freeze on any cost-of-living adjustment to the pay of certain federal civilian employees.
Additionally, Fitzpatrick has supported historic cuts to the budget of the legislative branch for both 2011 and 2012 including an additional 11 percent reduction to 2011 levels. He supports eliminating automatic pay raises for Members of Congress (H.R. 187),and streamlining the way the legislative branch does business for even more savings (Amendments to H.R. 1, Amendments to H.R. 2551, H.R. 292).
