Lawrence Tabas was elected Chairman of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania on July 13, 2019.
A lifelong Republican, Lawrence Tabas is widely lauded for being a leader who stands by the rank-and-file with unwavering courtesy and generosity.
“Whether a candidate is on the borough council or in the White House, Democracy only works when leaders listen,” said Tabas said. “That’s how I approach my job.”
An acclaimed election law expert, and longtime General Counsel to the Republican Party of Pennsylvania, Tabas’ successful 2016 defense against the “Jill Stein recount effort” secured the 2016 presidential election in Pennsylvania and prevented a last-ditch effort by Democrats to deliver the commonwealth’s electoral votes to Hillary Clinton.
Tabas has more than 40 years of experience representing federal, state, and local candidates; candidate committees; political party committees; political action committees; governmental bodies (including state and local); business entities; and non-profit entities in election law matters. His representation places special emphasis on campaign finance law (federal and state), ballot referendum matters, nomination petitions and ballot access, recounts and election contests, regulatory matters, corporate and association sponsored political action committees, voting equipment and systems, conduct of elections, First Amendment issues relating to political speech, referendums, compliance with HAVA, and redistricting.
In addition to election law, Tabas is also a nationally recognized healthcare attorney. His health care law legal experience includes the representation of Pennsylvania County governments in Behavioral Health Managed Care Programs, physician group practices, hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, licensed healthcare providers, and medical management service organizations.
Tabas is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned both an undergraduate and a master’s degree. He earned his law degree at Georgetown University and currently lives with his wife, in Philadelphia.
