The Beaver Countian

She enjoys her eggs scrambled until they’re dry, is a fan of classic movies like Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz, and she is one of fifteen judges who sit on the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, deciding appeals of decisions from the Court of Common Pleas. Now the Honorable Judge Judy Olson is running to become one of just seven justices who comprise the highest court in our state, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Judge Olson sat down with the Beaver Countian last night to talk about her life, her candidacy, and the justice system in Pennsylvania.

Married to her husband Jim, or “Mr. Judge Judy” as she fondly refers to him on the campaign trail, Judy Olson is the 57-year-old mother of two grown children. A graduate of Duquesne University School of Law, Olson spent much of her career as a partner with Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis in Pittsburgh. In 2008, she was nominated by Governor Edward Rendell to serve as Common Pleas Judge of Allegheny County. After just one year on the bench, Olson successfully ran for the Superior Court of Pennsylvania where she has served as an appellate judge for the past six years.
