Democrats Put Politics Before Children

HARRISBURG — Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement regarding the Democrats’ decision to use Central High School’s Governor’s Award For Academic Excellence for their own liberal interests.

“Today, Democrats proved they are more content to push their radical ideology than applaud children for their incredible academic achievements,” Gleason said. “Instead of honoring the students of Central High School for their hard work and achievements, Democrats have decided to use the Governor’s award as a chance to further their liberal agenda.

“The fact of the matter is that Democrats like Allyson Schwartz, Tom Wolf and Katie McGinty want to deflect the blame for raiding education spending and covering their tracks with Obama stimulus dollars. Democrats kicked the can down the road when it came to education spending, and are now trying to spin their way out of responsibility for their actions.

“Under Governor Tom Corbett, more money has gone to our schools than at any point in Pennsylvania’s history. Governor Corbett restored the Democrats’ cuts to education, and his reforms help Pennsylvania win the national Race to the Top contest and its $51.7 million prize.

“It is a shame that today’s focus has shifted away from the remarkable students at Central High School. I congratulate these students and the others across the Commonwealth on winning the Governor’s Award for Academic Excellence, and look forward to their continued success.”

Investing in Education

Governor Tom Corbett has invested more money in Pennsylvania’s schools than any other Governor in history, including restoring cuts imposed by the previous Democrat Administration.
