The American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) announced today that it has awarded U.S. Representative Lou Barletta (R-Pa.) its prestigious Roadway Safety Champion Award. Barletta, who introduced H.R. 3536, the Safe Roads for America Act, in the 112th Congress, is an ardent champion of roadway safety infrastructure. His leadership and vision relating to roadway signage and pavement marking retroreflectivity and its benefits to the motoring public is driving a new, vibrant discussion about roadway safety on Capitol Hill. Rep. Barletta is a former roadway pavement marking company owner himself, and knows the benefits of retroreflective or bright pavement markings and signage firsthand.
ATSSA President and CEO Roger A. Wentz noted, “Rep. Barletta’s strong commitment to roadway safety and reducing fatalities on America’s roadways is a testament to his dedication and drive to make our transportation system safer, more efficient and more reliable. As the nation’s voice of roadway safety, ATSSA is deeply honored to be working with Rep. Barletta and is honored to give him the Roadway Safety Champion Award.”
Rep. Barletta, upon being notified of the award, stated, “As a former small business owner and founder of a pavement marking business, I know the issues of highway safety concerns very well. This association is important in that the priorities they have make highway safety much better and save lives. I am honored to receive this recognition.”
