PA GOP Chairman Gleason Statement Applauding General Assembly For Passing Voter ID Legislation

HARRISBURG — Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement applauding the General Assembly for passing House Bill (HB) 934.

“Today, the Pennsylvania House of Representative sent the final version of House Bill 934 to Governor Corbett’s desk. When Governor Corbett signs this bill, Pennsylvania will join at least fifteen other states with voter identification legislation requiring a photo-ID before casting your vote. With the passage of this bill, the integrity of our elections and the protection of one of the most basic tenets of our democracy can be ensured for future generations,” said Chairman Gleason.

“We already show identification when boarding a plane, applying for a job, driving a car, purchasing medicine and firearms and cashing a check. These simple measures protect us from danger, fraud and theft in our daily lives. The integrity of our elections and voting process, which determine our leaders and lawmakers, deserves the same attention.

“This legislation defends the constitutional principle of one person, one vote. Pennsylvanian’s should have an equal say in the important decisions voters make twice a year when they head into the polls, without the threat of a discounted vote as a result of fraud and corruption on behalf of others.”

Chairman Gleason continued, “I applaud the members of the General Assembly for their hard work and dedication to protecting the integrity of our citizens’ right to vote.”
