Pfuhl’s dedication and service to Johnstown spanned 20 years
HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania Republican Party Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement regarding the recent passing of Herb Pfuhl, who served as the mayor of Johnstown for 20 years:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Johnstown Mayor Herb Pfuhl and express our most heartfelt sympathies to his wife Phyllis, and to their family and friends of one of Johnstown’s most dedicated public servants,” Chairman Gleason said.
“Herb was a dear friend, and having worked with him through the Cambria County Republican Committee, I know how much pride he took in serving a city that he loved. Herb’s tenure as mayor, which spans over two decades, is a shining example of effective leadership that rises above the embers of partisanship. Even though Herb was a Republican governing an overwhelmingly Democrat city, he was unafraid to champion the business and taxpayer-friendly principles that make Johnstown a great place to live, work and raise a family. Herb’s steady hand helped carry our city through turbulent times, including the devastating 1977 Johnstown flood. His service to Johnstown and to the Republican Party will be certainly missed.”
