Getting The Message? Democrats Abandoning Government-Run Health Care Hopes

HARRISBURG — Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement on President Barack Obama and the Democrats’ government-run health care plan.

“It’s become painfully obvious that the American people have rejected President Obama and the Democrats’ push for government-run health care,” Gleason said. “For months, Pennsylvanians have been voicing their strong opposition to government-run health care, only to watch Congressional Democrat leaders like Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid resort to back-room meetings and late-night votes in order to push through legislation that will dramatically raise taxes, kill jobs and drive a government-sized wedge between patients and their doctors.

“After realizing that President Obama and Congressional Democrats refused to slow their plans for government-run health care down, the American people did it for them. Between the election of Scott Brown to the United States Senate and the overwhelming activism showing a sound rejection of government-run health care, the American people have forced the President Obama and the Democrats to finally rethink their current strategy.

“Perhaps now we can begin to take the thoughtful, step-by-step approach to reforming our health care system that the American people have wanted all along. Let’s put the focus back on making it easier to acquire and maintain health insurance for Americans, even if they have a change in they change jobs or locations. Let the focus return to keeping health care costs low as opposed to buying votes with taxpayer dollars and creating a huge new government bureaucracy.”
